Upon the release of Welcome to Sajjanpur, an India times review said, "Shyam Benegal has always been accredited as a mesmerizing storyteller known for making ‘meaningful’ cinema. 

This time he also caters to commercial consumers, coming up with his most ‘entertaining’ attempt, by far.

Synopsis

As one of the few literate men in his village of Sajjanpur, aspiring novelist Mahadev makes a niche for himself writing letters for money.

He enjoys helping people deal with various issues, but things change when beautiful Kamla comes to him.

Mahadev, who has always had feelings for Kamla, can't resist manipulating the communications between Kamla and her husband in the city with hopes of winning her for himself.

The story is definetely original for Bollywood. Many twists and turns along the road with nice humming songs along the way. Excellent comedy and drama done by Shreyas and Amrita.
